Cultural Anthropology Online Class Anth 105 - Spring 2008

Here is some preliminary information regarding the online Anth 105 classes (course codes #31312 and #31605).

About the Course
This course will require you to come on the main Palomar campus at San Marcos to take three tests during the semester (you will have to bring along a photo ID, scantron and a #2 pencil). Please note that I cannot make any exceptions to this policy of taking tests on campus. You will take the tests at the tutoring center in the library. You will have a choice of at least three different dates (including one evening and one Saturday morning) to come in to take each test. In addition to the three tests that you will take on campus, there will be weekly quizzes (5 points) that you will take online (these primarily cover chapter readings from the textbook), weekly discussions on the discussion board, a few one-two page assignments, and a participant-observation paper (5-6 page non-research paper). I will explain how to take online quizzes and how to post to a discussion board at the orientation meeting on campus Thursday, January 24th from 5:00-6:00pm in the library in room LL-109.  **If you are enrolled, and do not attend the orientation meeting and did not e-mail by January 23, you will be dropped so that others can add the class.***

There are two required texts:

1) Nanda, Serena and Richard Warms. 2007. Cultural Anthropology. 9th ed. Boston: Wadsworth Publishing Company. ISBN:  0534617069

2) Lee, Richard B. 2003. The Dobe Ju/’hoansi. 3rd ed. Boston: Wadsworth Publishing Company. ISBN: 0155063332

Adding/Crashing the Course
If you are interested in adding the class, you MUST be present at the orientation meeting on January 24th. (However, I cannot guarantee a spot in the class.  It depends on how many spots are available at that time.)**** Please do not send an e-mail requesting to be added with an exemption from attending the orientation meeting, as I will not be able to grant your request****.  If you are interested in adding the class and cannot make the orientation meeting, you can stop by my office hours and discuss space availability.

You will be able to access this online course on Blackboard by Tuesday, January 22, 2008.   Click here to go to the Blackboard site:   http://www.palomar.edu/pconline/
