Re: calcium again [HAPP-L]
John,
It could be that protein causes an increase in calcium secretion because
under normal circumstances calcium and phosphorus work in an inverse
relationship. When calcium is increased, phosphorus is decreased and when
phosphorus is increased, calcium is decreased. Many proteins are high in
phosphorus, thus increasing P intake and Ca secretion.
Of course I am no expert on the subject. But I do know that phosphorus
drinks were given to transplant patients with high levels of calcium in
order to increase calcium secretion and therefore to lower the calcium
levels in the blood.

Alice said .....
- high protein diet causes calcium excretion
- calcium carbonate interferes with iron absorption; decreases
absorption via pH increase
Since high iron predisposes males to heart problems could calcium be used
to
minimize the effect in males......
Why does protein diets cause calcium excretion.......
High doses of calcium in the blood does not occur because of the solubility
product
of Calcium phosphate.
