Tongue piercing
Some of my students are asking me about tongue piercing, and I've shown
them figures from the Netter and Clemente atlases of the nerves and vessels
in the tongue.
It seems that I've heard (maybe read in the newspaper) of some cases of
people having to have the tongue or part of it excised as a result of
misplaced piercings (as if ALL tongue piercings weren't "misplaced"!). I'm
not sure if this is reliable information, or if it is, what the proximate
cause is: hemorrhage? infection?
Does anyone have the skinny on this topic? How about genital piercing--any
news of serious disfigurement, excision, etc?
Curious students want to know.
