RE: Book recommendation [HAPP-L]
Friends,
Some books I recommend in neuroscience (including reviews of some of
them) are found at
http://www.lionden.com/neuro.htm
A more general book is Medicine's 10 Greatest Discoveries -- Meyer
Friedman M.D. and Gerald W. Friedland, MD
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0300075987/lionden This is a
thoughtful and entertaining synopsis of a handful of the major
breakthroughs in human biology. It includes not just the facts of
discovery but also the fun, foulups, foul smells (did you know Vesalius
kept cadavers in his Paris apartment?!), fighting, and philosophy
leading up to each breakthrough. The context is medicine (note the
authors' MDs), so it's really meant as an explanation of the history of
discovery that has led to modern medical practice. A short, easy read.
Some of my students in A&P 2 will be reading it for extra credit this
semester.

Hi all,
We have had several good book recommendations in the last week. Is
anyone
interested in writing a short (2-3 paragraph) book review to be
published in
an upcoming HAPS-EDucator. Someone has already volunteered to write one
for
the Spring issue, but it would be great to have more. Deadlines for
submission are: February 1-Spring issue, April 15-Summer issue, August
1-Fall issue, November 1-Winter issue.
Thanks,
Susan, HAPS-ED editor

For a fun, quick, enjoyable read I suggest "The Bone Lady" by Mary H.
Manhein. It is about the life of a forensic anthropologist.
Cheers!
