Re: Resp. and ECG- new question [HAPP-L]
multiple lab instructors are not on the same page........I think Alice's
suggestions are very helpful and would love to see a copy
(tday@xxxxxxxxxxxxx)if you don't mind....as I've seen many a lab write up
send me your snail-mail address or fax number (or did I overlook that on
your e-mail?) & I'll send you the data sheet - since I used scissors and
tape on photocopies of the biopac data sheet, it's not in digital form. on
the protocol, i just hand-wrote the changes as posted to this list.
I find that placing the electrodes proximately improves the signal and
eliminates baseline wavering to some degree...clinical folk will recall
this method: "White to Right" (below R clavical, positive) "Red to Bed" (L
rib cage under axilla at level of nipple, negative) and "Black to Back" (R
iliac crest, ground).....I know the limb placements are less intrusive if
the subjects are not as comfortable with each other.
I will try this next time, thanks for the info.
The measuring of Ventricular Systole and Ventricular Diastole and their
respective ratios is also a bit messy. Where do others take these
measurements?
Q-T and T-Q? I know that the designation of the QRS complex as the R wave
often confuses students as "R" also designates a particular part of the
QRS. Do you measure the V Sys ratio as rest/post-exercise and do the same
with V Dias OR compare Sys/Dias for both rest and post-exercise? I think
both are instructive as it shows V Dias as having a more dramatic change
post-exercise due to temporal shortening.
The biopac instructions aren't clear on some of these measurements. I
don't know how the standard measurements provided were done, and that would
be useful to know. I tell the students to be consistent in how they place
the cursors. I got it into my head somehow that the peak of R is only used
for amplitude of QRS and for determining period of one cycle and bpm. For
any intervals or segments that go to or from QRS, even if designated, say,
"P-R interval," measure to the start of Q. I don't know where I got these
ideas, I think I inferred it somehow from the biopac lab, but I would
appreciate being corrected if this is wrong. I do whatever the write-up
says re: Vsys and Vdias.
