Re: sugar?? [HAPP-L]
Can any HAPSTER answer this question posed by a student?: Why do some
people get energized by sugar/candy, while some (my student, apparently)
get
sleepy?
For me personally, it is an obsession! How does this enter in? (I can
probably figure it out -- but maybe someone more knowledgeable knows off
hand.)
I can leave sugar alone -- even chocolate (which is LOVE!!!!). But, the
minute I eat one chocolate, I'm gone! There is no such thing as ONE
chocolate.
I do not like cake. I really don't. If you asked me right now if I
wanted a piece of cake, I would tell you (very honestly), "No, thank
you." But, if I decided to be polite and have some anyway, I would want
the biggest piece and I would want the piece with the most frosting.
And I would go back for another piece. And I would gobble down the
frosting! And I would regret it BIG TIME the next day (or maybe even
later that day!). I mean, intestinal distress and total hyperactivity!
My daughter is even worse than I am! When she was in grade school (she
is a professional psychologist for the state of North Carolina now), our
neighbors did not understand (and actually thought I was a very cruel
mother!) because I would not let her go out on Halloween! And when they
tried to circumvent me, I survived(!) one night of her antics and then
her candy disappeared. To this day, she does not eat sweets (aside from
an occasional taste of something).
Sorry for the personal stories there -- but this one is real!
Don't have any stats on it -- but I know the problem (even if I don't
know the solution!) -- if that makes any sense!
