RE: course level [HAPP-L]

We fought this battle a few years ago and managed to have one semester of
biology as a prereq to our A&P course.  The HAPS listserve has had extended
discussions of this topic in the past.  You could check the archives to
garner ammo for your meeting with the Dean.

What a topical discussion, at Pasadena City College not only is our straight
anatomy course (ANAT 25) consider first year material (eek!) I must accept
all
comers (i.e. there is no prerequisite)...I have a meeting with the Dean of
advising Monday to see if we can't change one or the other of those traits
which make my grades look so "unsuccessful" to the Dean!

We discussed this quite extensively once before, so you might be able to
find a pretty good sampling of feedback in the archive. My A&P courses are
at the 2000 (sophomore) level somewhat against the wishes of my department
and myself. They are at least as challenging as some of our 3000 and 4000
courses, and we wanted our premed students to be able to use A&P as a
biology elective, especially for the possible benefit to MCAT preparation.
However, the School of Health Sciences needs A&P to be counted as the lab
science sequence in their students' core curriculum, and only
1000/2000-level courses can be counted in the core. So their dean beat up
our dean and we had to leave A&P at the 2000 level.
