RE: Volunteer (prerequisite vs DWF data) [HAPP-L]
In your school your DEPARTMENT can decide what an F is???? It doesn't have
to go through your governance system and be college-wide? Or are you just
saying that below 70 is not enough for a student to progress to the next
course?

The scale I use is different. Next semester the whole science dept. will
use less than 70% is an F. Less than 78% is a D.

All...
I like the suggestion of compiling data. It will be helpful when
discussing our own school's A&P issues. The suggestions Ken makes are
good ones. The only suggestion or comment I have is about the %
D's/F's. Is D passing at any institution? Does anyone use a grading
scale OTHER than 90 - 100 that would possibly skew the D's and F's?
Personally I'd lump all non passing grades in one category (for us that
would be D's/F's).
One last comment... sometimes students that don't pass A&P I take A&P
II, should that be monitored or taken into account? (perhaps that is
getting too picky).
Thanks heading up the data aquisition!!

Carl,
It shouldn't be too much work to start a spreadsheet and just catalog the
basic data. I'll volunteer to do it as long as I don't get saddled with
having to write an article or report, for which I have little time at
present. But I'd be glad to compile the data and then turn it over to
someone.
There will need to be some consistency in the reporting so I can easily
plug the data into a spreadsheet without having to fuss with a lot of
interpretation and judgment calls. Before anyone starts sending in data,
I
suppose we should discuss and agree on exactly what we want to collect.
May I suggest:
Name and location of the institution (with the option to have that
withheld)
Prerequisites for A&P, in generic terms such as Biol or Chem
Percent W's in A&P I; separate percent in A&P II
Percent D's and F's in each (composite or should we separate them?)
Suggestions welcome.
Ken
