Re: [HAPS-L] A&P dual enrollment
From: "Peter Zao" <peter_zao@xxxxxxx>
Is there a HAPS position on dual enrollment (high school students
enrolled in college classes)? High schools in our area would like to
teach A&P at the high schools and award those high school students
college credit for taking A&P.
My personal opinion is that high school students have not developed the
neural connections necessary to perform well in second-year science
(unless of course the content is watered down to the high school level).
I've had high school students attempt A&P and rarely are they
successful.
My daughter took A&P as a college course with dual credit -- in 1987. Wanna
guess who her teacher was????
No, she did not get A's straight across. (I do not repeat student's grades
to anyone; she knows I may use her grades as needed.) She passed both
courses (I & II) and I truly believe she learned a great deal. She got both
HS and college credit.
OK -- if she had taken these classes as a college student (fully HS
graduated, etc.) she probably would have Aced them both. I am not saying
that because she is my daughter. Also, I can honestly say that she knew
what she was talking about in A&P when she walked out of class on that last
day. She did not get the A's she would get today but her grades were
representative of what she knew. And she definitely got decent grades!
