Hi, all--it's contract negotiation time of year here, and we are once
again trying to get 1 for 1 credit for lab instruction. Can anyone
give me any encouraging examples to use as we negotiate? Didn't
someone request info on this topic last year? If there is a body of
info compiled out there I sure would appreciate receiving it. Thanks
for your help--Johanna
Those of us who teach at Suffolk County Community College on
Long Island, NY already have a 1 for 1 credit for laboratory
instruction. Supervising laboratory activities is no different than
supervising an in-class writing assignment in English; no different
than supervising art students painting, drawing, creating any art
work, etc.; no different than supervising mathematics students
working on problems; no different than engineering students working
on a CAD program in design; no different than supervising any
computer programming student, any computer art design student,
any accounting student, etc. I'm certain there are other examples
out there as well.
Good luck with your negotiations!
