Very cool! I once had a lab instructor who used dog ear tape to 'build' the abdominal muscles on a volunteer. She could then also demonstrate the dissection techniques of cutting through the center of the muscle and reflecting it to both sides, so as to not disturb the origin and insertion (though the last time I did dissection under someone else's supervision, they weren't using that method any more).

Hello All,
I'd like to add a variation on using string to demonstrate actions of muscles. I have done something similar using "Thera-Band", the material that physical therapists often use. It's bigger (more visible) and stretchy. By stretching it as you hold it against the origin and insertion, and then letting it recoil, you can approximate the action of the contracting muscle. There are limitations, of course, but it works pretty well, and it doesn't cost much.
