Re: [HAPS-L] Hip Bone?
I agree. When there are common "lay" terms for an item, I make it clear as
to which terms I will or will not accept. Besides, "hip bone" is incorrect
grammar. "Hip" is a noun, not an adjective. I suppose you could say,
"Hippal bone" or "Hippic bone" - now that sounds amusing.

Hi all,
Regarding the "vernacular" terms, it is my feeling that we are teaching
anatomy. All of us emphasize learning anatomical terms such as
"superior" and "inferior", instead of up and down. So, it makes sense
that we should be just as fussy for the body parts.
I marked a student wrong when she put "ass" instead of gluteal region.
I also have not allowed "shoulder blade", "collarbone", "kneecap", etc.
I do not allow the use of the term "stomach" if the reference is to the
abdominopelvic cavity, and have taken off full credit for "incubator
foramen" when I asked pelvic inlet.
