Charlene,

I beg to disagree with your call on the grammar involved. Hip bone is 
not "agrammatical" because "hip" is an adjective. (If you speak "jazz," 
you'll find that 'hip' is indeed an adjective, but that's another 
discussion.)

Hip bone is a "compound" noun - like contact lens or gas grill or diesel 
engine.  Plain and simple.

Grammar police, back off and shield your weapons.
