Is the conjunctiva considered a mucous membrane?  It does secrete mucous.  Or do mucous membranes have to line body cavities, as many texts decree?

By the way, since we were talking so much about pronunciation...Do you say conJUNCTiva or conjuncTIva?

I've pondered the same question and eventually decided to regard it as a mucous membrane. I accent the JUNK syllable but dictionaries recognize both of those pronunciations as valid. Come to HAPS in 2008 and we'll vote on it; I've already got this word on my workshop agenda.
