Re: [HAPS-L] other primate veins?

Many thanks for the many replies!

For the comparative anatomists - what about non-primates? Giraffes, for example:) (I know tons has been done in terms of neck & brain vasculature - but what about their legs?)

I asked Robin McFarland (a comparative primate anatomist) about venous
valves in the nonhuman primates. She confirms that they do and that the
relative number of valves is essentially the same across primate taxa,
including humans. She cites

R. Thiranagama, A. T. Chamberlain, & B. A. Wood. 1989. Valves in
superficial limb veins of humans and nonhuman primates. Clinical Anatomy
2(3):135-145.
