Re: [HAPS-L] Two "Smileys" - and an end-of-summer treat

(2) this 'fun' website about the Young Creationist 'Evangelist' - Dr. Kent Hovind ( http://www.kent-hovind.com/ <http://exchange.gannon.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL="" )
           (A) also affectionately known as 'Dr. Dino' - espousing the co-existence of man and dinosaurs
           (B) the "Dr." is actually from a 'degree mill' Patriot Bible College, and his other two degrees from unaccredited schools

Did you google that "bible college"? It's a double-wide mobile home, if I remember right. I got quite a hoot out of it.

But if you really want to see how creationists distort facts or rely on pure fallacies as 'doctrine' to the point that other creationists even want to have nothing to do with a 'bad seed', there are some worthwhile insights into the mentality and false logic.    I've spent a few hours over the last month really getting a kick out of it. Boy, you think politicians 'waffle'?  "You ain't seen nothin' yet folks."   (to quote an old 'carney' barker...)

You might enjoy this online transcript of one of my stage debates (@ Auburn University) with Duane Gish.

Pleasant journeys into the next academic year.

I'm going to have an interesting year. I've taken on an overload in A&P, but I have (for the first and perhaps only time) a graduate assistant who's going to teach two of my lab sections. She wants to be a career A&P instructor, so I'm mentoring her in the art of A&P teaching. I hope I can do justice to the task. I just found out by happenstance that she's a cancer (osteosarcoma) survivor and has quite a touching video on the Lance Armstrong Live Strong web site (see Trinika's Video). I'm bringing her to HAPS next year to introduce her around so she can start networking and testing the waters for A&P teaching opportunities. She should be just finishing grad school about that time.

And hope I can make it to the Big Easy next May...

I'm getting ready for it. I have a fun workshop in development. Sorry I couldn't stay for the workshops at San Diego--the Galapagos Islands were calling to me. I've already chartered a yacht for another trip in May 2009, and if I don't get enough students and local colleagues to fill all the spaces (16), maybe I can take some more HAPSters. Vern Wiersema, Linda Nichols, and Marsha Turell were, I think, not entirely disappointed with this year's trip. ;-) If you want a good sample of the sorts of things we saw, here's a nice YouTube video put together by another member of our group, Herb Masters. It's worth watching for the music alone!

ALSO, I leave a recipe for grilled corn that is 'OUT OF THIS WORLD' !!!

Gonna try that!  :-)
