RE: [HAPS-L] maternal mortality

Newsweek had a short article about this in their "100 Things you need to know" issue this past July.  As of 9/10/2007, this link to their article is still working.

Gary, unfortunately the link died over the past two days.  Do you have the AP cite?

Subject: [HAPS-L] maternal mortality

Hello all,

This is not the most pleasant subject, but it always seems that my students don't take maternal mortality during childbirth very seriously, maybe they regard it as a historical thing?   or only relevant in the third world?   Or maybe most of them are too young to think about childbirth relating to them.... it is hard to tell.

Anyway, I saw this news article in a local paper, and since I noticed it was an AP wire article, I went and found it on the internet.  This particular link loaded faster than a couple of others I tried.

I feel that this article does bring it home,.  Plus the increasing mortality rates in the US are rather disturbing.
