[HAPS-L] Disease/Syndrome names

Why are some disease/syndrome/condition etc. names possessive, like 
Huntington's disease and others, like Lyme Disease, not possesive?  We 
all know the diseases do not belong to these persons or places.  Is it 
usage and tradition?
