[HAPS-L] Privacy of our emails
Hello, everyone;
As long as Jon has brought up this issue, I will take the opportunity
to remind all users of HAPS-L the following (I do this once or twice a
year in any case, but we have had a lot of new members of late):
"HAPS-L" is a public service of the Human Anatomy & Physiology Society,
and is meant as an open forum for the exchange of ideas. HAPS-L is NOT
a secure email system, and is NOT limited to members of HAPS. Anyone
can join HAPS-L. All emails submitted to HAPS-L are open to the public.
Any advice given on this Listserv is the responsibility of the author
of the email.
Although we do not archive postings (yet), people should be aware that
ALL emails sent through any email system are ultimately retrievable, and
for legal reasons are normally considered public domain unless sent
through a secured system.
Always be aware of that before you hit the little "send" button on the
top of your screen.

My university runs ssuch software and would be interested in hosting
such a list. However, I am loath to offer such a service to the group
because North Dakota, like other states who are "open records" states,
would treat these emails as public records, and not in any sense
private. Not that anyone who posts to a list serve can realistically
claim to have an expectation of provacy - our state legal system has a
poor track record of even putting up a fight with respect to student
and
faculty emails, even when using the email account provided by the state
is a job/student requirement.
