UNIT 1: ANATOMICAL ORIENTATION

Objectives:

Upon completion of the assigned reading, laboratory exercise and study of lecture material, the successful student should be able to:

1. Define and explain the levels of organization relevant to the human body from the molecular to the organismic level

2. Describe the common methods and approaches to the study of anatomy

3. Identify the functional systems of the body and the major organs within those systems

4. Describe anatomical position

5. Identify body cavities and major organs within each

6. Identify and describe planes and sections as they relate to gross anatomy and histology

7. Define and apply directional terms in both quadruped and biped

8. Construct appropriate diagrams to assist in the explanation of relevant terms

9. Use the appropriate terminology relative to anatomical orientation, body regions and subdivisions of the trunk

10. Use the metric system correctly and be able to make conversions of mass, volume and length as they apply to the study of anatomy
