Objectives:
Upon completion of the assigned reading, laboratory exercises and study of lecture
material, the successful student should be able to:
1. Identify organs belonging to the reproductive system
2. Describe the development of the male and female reproductive systems
3. Explain the structure and function of each of the organs of the reproductive systems
4. Compare and contrast the processes of spermatogenesis and oogenesis
5. Describe the function, histology, location and structure of the testes, scrotum vas
deferens, seminal vesicle, bulbourethral (Cowper's) gland, prostate, ejaculatory duct,
penis, male urethra and relationship to other pelvic organs
6. Trace the path of sperm in the male reproductive system
7. Describe the function, histology, location and structure of the ovaries, Fallopian
tubes, uterus, vagina, their respective support structures and relationship to other
pelvic organs
8. Describe the external genitalia of the female
9. Identify the components of the perineum
10. Describe the structure of the mammary gland
11. Describe the etiology, symptoms and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
12. Explain the principles of the various types of contraceptive methods
13. Define and apply the correct terminology associated with the reproductive systems
