Objectives:

Upon completion of the assigned reading, laboratory exercise and study of lecture material, the successful student should be able to:

1. Define the integumentary system, its functions and identify its principal components

2. List, describe and diagram the layers of the skin

3. Describe the origin and function of skin and hair color

4. Explain the development, distribution, structure and function of skin appendages (hair, glands, nails)

5. Discuss the relationship between UV exposure, tanning, skin aging and skin cancer

6. Apply key vocabulary words and medical terms associated with the integumentary system

7. Discuss the characteristics and classification of neoplasms, as well as their etiology, diagnosis and treatment
