Bison Bison bison

Bison were once on the brink of extinction due to over hunting. As the last refuge of the great American bison, Yellowstone has seen their numbers increase significantly. In recent years, bison have become a source of conflict because of the perceived threat of infecting cattle with brucellosis.


 

Wyoming field meeting dates are as follows:

Aug. 6   Meet in Colter Bay, afternoon activity, lectures-presentations.

Aug. 7    Morning hike, afternoon Snake River float, evening lectures-presentations.

Aug. 8    Dawn float Snake River, Day hike near Slide Lake, lectures-presentations.

Aug. 9    Canoe String and Leigh Lakes, hike, lectures-presentations.

Aug. 10    Hike Cascade Canyon, lectures-presentations.

Aug. 11    Move to Yellowstone National Park, lectures-presentations.

Aug. 12    Lamar Valley (wolves?) wildlife viewing, lectures-presentations.

Aug. 13    Hike Mt. Washburn, Tower, wildlife viewing, lectures-presentations.

Aug 14   Canyon hikes/activities, wildlife viewing , lectures-presentations.

Aug. 15  Pelican Valley and East Entrance, evening wildlife viewing.
