Type Theory

The occupational ranking in your report are the result of decades of research with the MBTI TM. The list is based on over 60,000 people who have taken the MBTI TM. The idea is for you to look at the kind of jobs people enjoy who have the same personality preferences and type as you do.

Type theory predicts that occupations with high concentrations of people like yourself (people with the same type) will provide you with opportunities to express your preferences and provide you with tasks and problems that you will find interesting and challenging

Part 3 - 50 Most Popular Occupations

Refer to Part 3 of your MBTI Career Report.

On this page you will see a list of the 50 most popular occupations for your type. Your type is the combination of your four preferences. INFP is my type, and my preferences are introversion, intuitive, feeling and perceiving.

Review the list of 50 most popular occupations for your type. Put a check mark next to the titles that seem interesting to you. Do not be alarmed if some or many of the career titles do not seem interesting to you. When choosing a career or thinking about a career change, you must also consider your skills and values and interests. This list is simply a starting point for possible career exploration.

Part 4 - 25 Least Popular Occupations

Refer to Part 4 of your MBTI Career Report.

On this page you will see a list of the 25 least popular occupations for your type. This list provides a ranking of the 25 occupations where your type is found with a relatively low frequency.

If you are considering an occupation on the least popular list, it may be for reasons other than your type preferences.

You should not discount any occupation just because it is not popular with your type. You may very well succeed and be highly satisfied in such an occupation if you can find other opportunities, such as leisure activities, where you can express your preferences.

Part 5 - Interpreting your Occupational Lists

Part 5 discusses type theory and may help you understand how to look at your occupational lists. Please read it carefully.

Part 6 provides resources for further reading. The Palomar College Career Center has various reference books on the MBTI TM if you would like to explore type theory.
