Overview

The Counseling Department offers various services that may help you with you academic and career decisions. In this section, I briefly describe the services that may be of value to new and continuing students: assessment, transfer center, academic, career and personal counseling and counseling classes and workshops.

Counseling Services

Academic, career, and personal counseling are provided in the Counseling Center. You can schedule an appointment with a counselor by calling the Counseling Center at (760) 744-1150 ext 2179. During registration periods, counseling is usually only available on a walk-in basis.

Counselors are not assigned. You can schedule an appointment with a particular counselor or request to meet with whomever is available when you are.

  • Academic Counseling is available to students seeking assistance with scheduling, or clarification of requirements for graduation or transfer. Academic counseling provides students with information about the requirements for the certificate and associate degree majors offered at Palomar.
  • Career Counseling is available to enrolled and prospective students on a walk-in basis and by individual appointment.
  • Personal Counseling is available to assist students find solutions to personal problems that may be affecting their academic progress.

The Transfer Center provides the following services and resources:

  • Computer programs to assist student research colleges
  • Walk-in counseling and staff assistance
  • Transfer planning and application workshops
  • Representatives from four-year universities are available by appointment
  • An extensive reference library of transfer planning guides, catalogs and articulation agreements.

The Palomar College Assessment Program provides assessment, advisement and orientation services.

All students working towards an AA or transfer program should take the English, math and reading assessment before their first registration. The assessment results give direction in choosing the appropriate courses.
