Philip. 2003. Recent Early Iron Age Research in Bassar, Togo.
Nyame Akuma 59:76-78.
Note: The C14 dates from Dekpassanware are primarily from
two midden deposits (Units 23 and 36) situated at least 80 m apart.
They both produced calibrated dates between 800 BC and AD 150 with ironworking
debris (ore, tuyeres, slag) showing up between 400-200 B.C. Other early
dates are from a residential area (Unit 24) and an ironworking area (Unit 29).
The two other Later Iron Age calibrated dates range between ca. A.D. 1300-1600 are from within
large slag mounds associated with site reoccupation.
Others coming: Agarade Rockshelter (to be published in revised form) excavations; Ph.D. dissertation 1985.
