Practice Quizzes for Physical Geography

Here are a set of quizzes that can be used by students in Physical Geography class to practice before an exam.  These are the kinds of questions you are likely to encounter on a multiple-choice or True/False exam. There are also fill-in-the-blanks questions for studying.  If you really want to learn from these practice quizzes, here is how to use them:

  • Study first.  (See How to Study for Physical Geography). As a supplement to your textbook, you might want to try this Tutorial on Earth/Sun Relations and Seasons, or another tutorial on Humidity.
  • When you think you have studied enough, take a quiz, without looking at the book or your notes.  Don't just guess so you can find out the answers--that won't help on the real exam.
  • Figure out how many questions you got right.
  • If you missed any questions, figure out why you missed them.  This is important!   You won't learn anything if you just memorize answers.  You have to know how to get the right answers, and why they are the right answers.  Your class notes and textbook should be very helpful here.  If you still can't figure it out, ask your instructor to explain it.
  • Retake the quiz the next day, and see how you do. Then take another quiz, and check yourself in the same manner.

The Quizzes:

Seasons and the Earth's Orbit                                        Air Masses and Fronts

Seasons and the Earth' Orbit II                                       Cyclonic Storms

The Geographic Grid and Time Zones                            Soils I

The Atmosphere I                                                          Soils II

The Atmosphere II                                                         Rocks I

Winds                                                                            Rocks II

Global Winds I                                                               Folds and Faults I

Global Winds II                                                              Folds and Faults II

Atmospheric Moisture

 Lapse Rates and Adiabatic Processes

For other practice quizzes in physical geography, try this page of Physical Geography Quizzes, or the website for the textbook, Physical Geography, by Tom McKnight (choose the chapter you are working on from the dropdown list, and take the online quizzes), or the website for the book Earth Science, by Tarbuck and Lutgens (again, choose the appropriate chapter topic from the dropdown list, and take the quizzes).
