Module #2 :
EUROPEAN MAN
AND HIS EXPLORATIONS

I. Prerequisites : Admission to the
course.
II. Estimated Time : 1 - 2 Class
sessions.
III. Goal of the Module : This module will
provide learning activities designed
to enable the student to understand where, when and why the Europeans
came
to North America. Included will be a
comparison of the various European
explorations
and the motivating factors behind them. Included also will be a
discussion of the Native Americans
response to the arrival.
IV.
Pre-assessment : Before beginning this
module, complete the paper
and pencil test.
V. Objectives : After completing this
module, the student will be able to :
A. Delineate at least 3 cultural
traits of the European man of the 15th.
- 17th. centuries.
B. Cite at least two reasons for
European explorations of North
America.
C. Differentiate between the
significance of religion and economics
in exploration and colonization.
D. Delineate at least one
pre-Columbian European exploration in
North America.
E. Cite at least two Spanish
explorations in the Southeast and the
original inhabitants encountered.
F. Cite at least two French
explorations and the peoples contacted
in the Northeast, Central and the South.
G. Cite at least 3 English
explorations in the East and the peoples
they encountered.
H. Cite at least two other European
explorations in North America
and the peoples each encountered.
