TERMS : AN
INTRODUCTION TO THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
I. Prerequisites : Admission to the course.
II. Estimated Time : 1 - 2 Class sessions.
III. Goal of the Module : This module will provide learning
activities
designed to enable the student to acquire a fundamental knowledge in
the field of Indian political
affairs as well as its relationship to the various
U.S. political institutions. Also stresses is some basic
terminology
important to this field.
IV.
Pre-assessment : Before beginning this module, complete the
paper and pencil test.
V. Objectives : After completing this module, the student
will be able to :
A. After completing this module, the student will be able to
list and delineate between the six historical stage in the development of the
state.
B. The student will be able to
delineate between the terms :
state, government, sovereignty, independence,
politics, shaman, and sachem.
C. The student will be able to list at least six ways in
which tribal sovereignty is exercised.
D. The student will be able to identify the following
individuals and their relevance to Indian politics : DeVitoria, Locke, Rousseau, Las Casas,
Cohen.
E. The student will be able to delineate in detail an
example of a traditional tribal government.
F. The student will be able to delineate at least three
differing definitions of the word " Indian ".
