What is Accelerated Reader?

Accelerated Reader is a program to encourage all children to read for enjoyment while increasing their comprehension skills.  Each child is given a reading level range determined by their teacher.  Students come to the library with their reading logs to choose a book in their range.  The books in the library have color coded labels for easy selection.  After reading their book the students take a comprehension quiz on a computer.  The computer scores their quiz.

What is the Reading Club?

The PTA helps sponsor a reading club.  Students come to the library during recess and /or lunch to read.  Also, they can get a pass from their teacher.  When they come to the library, they read for fifteen minutes.  At the end of fifteen minutes they will get one punch in their bookmark.  When they have ten punches, the students do a book report on one of the books they read.  They bring the book report and the bookmark (with ten punches) to the library and they get to pick a book to keep.  Once a month, the PTA awards each student who has read 150 minutes with a small trophy.
