Library Rules

In this page you will find information about our policies and services.  The library is open from 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM.  The library is a place for reading, research and study.  It is not a place for socialization as that is usually disruptive to those students, who are working.

  1. ALWAYS bring your ID and planner with you.
  2. Students MUST write all textbook barcodes in planner.  Failure to do so will result in students being denied any other textbooks.
  3. Eating, drinking or chewing gum is not allowed.
  4. Speak softly or whisper.
  5. Respect others and work quietly.
  6. Give your passes to the library staff member.
  7. Have the staff member sign your pass when returning to class
  8. If you have a question or can’t find something, ASK a  library staff member for help.

Computer Rules

The Internet at VRMS will be used for school related research only!

WARNING:  If your teacher assigns research that covers a topic that is not plainly and obviously school related, you need to have that teacher write you a pass giving you permission to research it on the internet.

Topics that will be questioned by library staff include things such as video game sites, skateboarding, pop music/video sites and anything else that appears to be non-school related.

Students are not allowed to view or send e-mail.

While you are researching on the Internet, you need to have your ID card out where library staff may see it.

We subscribe to Grolier’s online encyclopedia, if you are having trouble finding information or with a computer ASK Library staff person for help.  We are here to help you…

Search Stations

1.      Click on the bar at the bottom of the computer screen.  It is called OPAC.

2.      Type in your subject, and then click the keyword or subject icon.  If you know the title or author of what you are looking for, you can click that icon.

3.      The Boolean search (where you can use AND, OR, NOT) is under Power Search. Click Power Search then enter your topic.

Word Processing
You may type papers for your classes on the computers in the library.  We have MS Word.  During school, get a pass from your teacher and bring your rough draft.  Or you may come in during lunch with a lunch pass or after school.  Do not wait until the last minute.  We have only 14 computers and there is no guarantee that there will be a computer available when you come in.  If you are on the computer typing and a class comes in that has reserved the library you will be asked to relinquish your computer.

Printing

You must ask the librarian before you print anything.

Due to excessive printing of useless documents, we have found it necessary to monitor everything that is printed from the computers.  Paper and ink is expensive!
