Special note on Texts:
Many of my students have enjoyed the
assigned reading The Approaching Fury, by Stephen B. Oates.
For those of you who would like to pursue this topic further, you will be happy to learn that Professor Oates has published a companion volume, The Whirlwind of War: Voices of the Storm, 1861-1865 (click for link to text) that covers the years of the Civil War. In this sequel to The Approaching Fury, Professor Oates uses the same narrative style that has been so popular in the first volume. I strongly recommend this text to all of my students. |
