This is the launch of a Minotaur IV rocket from
Vandenberg Air Force Base. It was taken from the parking lot of
the 60" telescope at Palomar Observatory. The launch occurred
230 miles away. The official press
release said that it was a "military space surveillance satellite" that
was being launched into polar orbit. If you look carefully, you
can see the two points in the launch where the staging occurs.
