The term
Master Class is applied to a format where a group of students
meet with an experienced musician for a short period of time.
The students play for each other, and are taught be the expert
in front of the other students. Since the summer of 2001,
I have initiated a series of Master Classes at Palomar College.
These classes are open to students regardless of level of
achievement. Students who have participated have ranged from
beginners, with one semester of training, to returning professionals
who are honing their pianistic skills. The choice of repertoire
is up to the student. Classes are held in room D-10, giving
the students the opportunity to perform on the 9-foot Concert
Grand Falcone piano in the department's collection.
The Master
Class meets for four weeks, one evening a week for two hours.
Students may earn one-half college credit for attending and
participating in the Master Class. Students may elect to participate
as either an playing participant, or as an observer. The next
Master Class will be held in the summer of 2002, on four successive
Tuesday evenings, July 9, 16, 23, and 30, from 709 pm. Advanced
registration is required. Please consult the Summer 2002 Schedule
ok Classes for details on how to register.
