Palomar College RTV and Cinema students

come home big winners

at the 2004 NATAS Emmy Awards

 SAN MARCOS (June 19, 2004) –– Congratulations to Palomar RTV (Radio and Television) and Cinema students for receiving two 2004 Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Pacific Southwest Chapter! Five Palomar students were awarded Emmys in the ""Outstanding Student Achievement"" category, They are:

Brad Gardner for ""The Doctor is in"" a music video of an original song written and performed by local musician Neal Fox. Student Producer Brad Gardner created a clever visual interpretation of the song using editing skills he learned in the RTV 275 Avid class taught by Professor Pat Hahn. Danielle Ruston. Jay Rivett, Jared Rodriguez and Don Sinatra for their student film ""The Reader"", a sparkling comedy about a script reader who is discouraged by mediocrity and his search for a higher standard of art. This film was produced for Palomar College’’s Beginning Film and Video Production class taught by Professor Lisa Cecere. This was Don Sinatra’’s second Emmy Award. Also nominated were:

Branden Thompson and Mike Varga for their student film ""The Filmmaker"", a witty short film about a would-be filmmaker who has to come to grips with his short comings as a craftsman. ""The Filmmaker"" is a student project for Palomar Colleges Beginning Film/Video Field Production class taught by Professor Lisa Cecere. Dan Mellos and Patrick Wenk-Wolf for ""The Interrogation"", an intense, gritty teleplay about the interrogation of two suspects in a brutal murder. It was made for Palomar College’’s RTV 220 TV Production and Direction which requires students to do their productions in studio with three TV cameras. This class was taught by Professor Linda Sabo The awards were presented at the 30th Annual Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards on June 19, 2004 at the U.S Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego.

THE EMMY The Pacific Southwest region includes San Diego County and the television markets of Bakersfield, Oxnard, Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. The purpose of the awards is to recognize outstanding achievement in television by conferring annual awards of merit in this region. The annual presentation of these awards is intended to be an incentive for the continued pursuit of excellence for those working in television and to focus public attention on outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news and informational achievement in television. PALOMAR’’S RTV PROGRAM The Radio and Television Program at Palomar College offers students an opportunity to acquire entry-level skills in radio and television broadcasting, educational telecommunications, and communications for business and industry. Courses emphasize Hands-on training. Students can earn an Associate in Arts Degree and a Certificate of Achievement in Radio and Television and a certificate in multi media including the use of the Avid video editing system. These classes satisfy lower division requirements for transfer to a four-year institution.

 

NATAS Pacific Southwest Emmy Night 2004

June 19, 2004- Palomar College RTV and Cinema students were honored for Outstanding Student Achievement. Palomar students have now received 19 Emmys in this category.
