THE RADIO AND TELEVISION PROGRAM at Palomar College offers students an opportunity to acquire entry-level skills in radio and television broadcasting, TV News, and communications for business and industry. Courses emphasize Hand-on training. Students can earn an Associate in Arts Degree and a Certificate of Achievement in Radio and Television, Digital Media. A new certificate in Entertainment Technology is now available. 

We now offer a unique A.A. Certificate in Digital Media which includes training on Avid, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Photoshop. Most classes satisfy lower division requirements for transfer to a four year institution.

Students can learn TV News by taking the exciting RTV 240 course which produces the Emmy nominated weekly half-hour newscast broadcast "Primetime Palomar" to 275,000 homes on Cox 16 and Adelphia 67.

PROGRAM ADVANTAGES :

Palomar’s radio and television production classes are taught in two fully equipped 3-camera television production studios, Avid and Final Cut Pro editing stations, along with the live on air campus radio station, KKSM AM 1320 heard throughout North San Diego County.

Advanced TV production classes are taught in the Educational Television Studio, a 3000-square foot facility offering Beta cam SP mastering capabilities and an Avid Composer editing system with digital effects. Students in remote video shooting, editing, and TV News classes practice on Sony and Cannon digital and Beta SP camera’s. Students receive training in analog and digital editing systems including Avid, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Photoshop.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES :

Palomar’s radio and television students find work in broadcasting, cable television, independent production, public relations, advertising and other related fields.

AWARDS & AFFILIATIONS :

Students benefit from the programs many memberships and affiliations with local and national professional media organizations. Palomar’s radio and television students have been recognized with 21 Emmy Awards as well as many other local, regional, and national honors.
