Course Descriptions

·RTV 100: Intro to Electric Media                      This General Education Humanities course reveals the secrets of the broadcast world. You will learn the effect media has on society, how it effects your everyday life, how TV shows are selected for broadcast, and how TV and radio came to be and where they are headed. Is Howard Stern right? Is radio as we know it dying? This course explores these topics and many more. If you are looking for a humanities course that is relevant to your world, enroll today.

·RTV 120: Basic TV Production                             This hands on class will teach you the fundamentals of TV production including camera operation, shot composition, lighting, script writing, audio, directing, producing, and a lot more.

·RTV 160: Broadcast Advertising                          Today TV and radio advertising sales people are in high demand. This hands-on course teaches you the basics of TV and radio advertising sales to get you started on a financially successful career. For many who work in the broadcast industry this is where the real money is. Learn first hand how to make that first sale and how to open the door to your financial dreams.

·RTV 170: Intro to Video Editing                               Today’s world is media driven. Everything from TV commercials, to TV programs, to films, to promotional tapes, web videos, product instruction video and more have to be edited before they air, shown on the big screen or streamed onto the internet. This course teaches you how to become not only technically proficient at editing but more important, how to be a great story teller. (This course is part of the RTV Digital Media Certificate and degree)

·RTV 230: Digital Audio with Pro Tools                    Pro Tools is the digital multi-track audio editing system found in over 50,000 recording studios, radio and television stations, and post-production facilities around the world! This course covers the fundamental skills necessary to record, edit and mix on a basic level using a Digidesign Pro Tools system. The main focus is learning to use fundamental tools and techniques through demonstrations, real world examples and frequent hands-on assignments.

·RTV 240: TV News                                                          This hands-on class prepares you for a career in TV News or short form documentary production. Members of this course produce the Emmy nominated TV News program Primetime Palomar which is cablecast on Cox and Adelphia. You will learn field reporting, broadcast news writing, photojournalism, voice work, working in front of the camera, news producing, news directing, interviewing, TV news package production, short form storytelling, TV News ethics, and a lot more. If you have ever thought of working in the TV News business this is the course to take.

·RTV 275: Avid Editing                                                    Avid editing software remains the dominate tool in the film and television industry. In this class you have the unique opportunity to learn this fascinating software. This class is also for those currently working in broadcast or film industry who need to learn Avid for employment advancement or to fine tune your Avid skills.
