TESTS

There will be 4 tests and a comprehensive final.  Each test will be worth 100 points and the final exam will be worth 200 points. All tests, including the final exam, will be taken in the Tutoring Center located on the first floor of the San Marcos Library.  (For the hours of operation of the Tutoring Center go to http://www.palomar.edu/tutoring/ )

Homework

Homework assignments will be posted weekly on the class website.  All homework assignments will be graded and they are due in my office, AA-130, at 12:00 Noon on the Friday of the week that they are assigned.  The total of all possible homework grades will be equal to 50 test points.

GRADES

Your class grade will be based on the four tests, the final exam, and the homework grade for a total possible of 650 points.  My general policy is that I do not give makeup or late tests unless you have a compelling reason or valid medical excuse.  If you know that you must miss a test, for any reason, you can arrange to take the test early.  Letter grades will be assigned as follows:

A : =>585          B:  520-584          C:  455-519          D:  390-454          F< 390

A third of this class will be conducted via information on the Internet and email.  The website home page is where I will post any important announcements, answers to frequently asked questions and hints.  The website home page also contains links to chapter outlines, worked problems, practice tests and problem sets.  Problem sets will be posted Friday afternoon and will be due in my office, AA-130, at 12:00 noon on the following Friday.

Academic Dishonesty (Cheating)

There is absolutely no reason to cheat on tests or homework for this class.  If you are having difficulty with the material you need to contact me immediately or go to the Palomar College Tutoring Center for help.  [The Tutoring Center website can be found at http://www.palomar.edu/tutoring/ .]There are many people and programs here at Palomar whose sole purpose is to help you acquire the skills necessary to pass your classes without resorting to academic dishonesty.  The Palomar College Student Code of Conduct has the following statement about academic dishonesty:

I. Academic Dishonesty

All incidents of academic dishonesty should be reported to the office of the Director of Student Affairs. This office maintains a record of these incidents and attempts to track for repeat offenders. Additionally, the Director of Student Affairs should be considered a resource person for students and staff desiring additional information or assistance with this policy.

At the discretion of the instructor, any of the following steps may be taken:

A. Confront the student and counsel him or her regarding the unacceptable nature of the offense.

B. Reassign the research paper, project, exam, or assignment for re-evaluation including the possibility of a lower grade as a consequence for dishonesty.

C. Designation of a failing grade for the assignment, project, exam, or paper.

D. Designation of a failing grade for the entire course.

E. Referral to the Director of Student Affairs for consideration of additional and more severe consequences, including the possibility of suspension or expulsion from the College and/or prohibition of participation with extra or co-curricular activities of the College.

Because the penalties for academic dishonesty are severe (I only use C, D, and E above), and it is very easy to identify cheating on a statistics test, please contact me immediately if are tempted to cheat on your tests or homework.  I will help guide you to a solution that does not require cheating.
