Is this the first time that this class has been offered on the internet
at Palomar?
Yes. This is the first class of any kind offered completely over the internet at Palomar.
Will this class be canceled if the enrollment is too small?
No, this class will not be cancelled regardless of the enrollment for the Fall
Semester.
What do I need to have to take this class?
To take the class you must have reliable access to the internet.
This access can be from a local library, Palomar College main library, Palomar College
Escondido Center library, or your own private access. You will need an E-mail
account so you can quickly ask me questions, and so I can quickly contact you if
it is necessary. Some homework assignments will be turned in via E-mail. You
will need a scientific calculator.
Does Palomar College provide technical assistance?
No, Palomar College and Dr. Vernoy can not provide technical assistance regarding your
personal internet connection or your Email service. Please contact your provider if
there is a problem. If you think that there is a problem with the Palomar server
please E-mail or call Dr. Vernoy immediately.
Do I have to buy the book and the workbook?.
Yes! You do have to buy the Book and the Workbook (they are available at the Palomar
College Bookstore). Because this class is over the internet you will have to get most of
your initial instruction and practice from the book and the workbook.
How do we take tests?
There will be 4 tests during the semester. You will be required to take the tests at
the Palomar main campus or the Palomar Escondido Center. At this time the details of
the testing are not finalized, but you will have a 5 day time period during which you must
take the test.
What qualifies Dr. Vernoy to teach this class?
I have authored a statistics book and have been teaching Statistics at Palomar College for
over 20 years.

Make sure you come to the class orientation. The orientation will be on Saturday, August 22 at 9:00 AM in room BE-5.
Read pages 5-7 in the textbook for detailed hints on how to do well in the course.
Buy your books as soon as possible and begin reading the first couple of chapters. It will be impossible for you to survive this course unless you read the book.
Do not get behind in your homework or your reading. This course is cumulative and a misunderstanding at any point can cause large problems down the road.
If you do not understand something GET HELP! E-mail Dr. Vernoy, call Dr. Vernoy, go to the tutoring center, come to Dr. Vernoy's office hours. (Click on class outline at the top of the page for office hours and the telephone number.)
Remember to read every chapter. As you read the chapter, work all the problems and make sure you can answer the questions in each Concept Quiz. Work as many of the problems at the end of the chapter as you can. (The answers to the odd numbered problems are at the back of the book.)
Use the Workbook. Try to work as many of the problems as you can. (Every problem has the solution in the back of the Workbook.)
The best way for everyone to learn statistics is to work problems....There are no shortcuts.
